At Fun Team Building, we understand the importance of participating in real events to help your team bond. But even our longest events usually only last a few days, then it’s back to the real world. Rather than relying on an event like the ones we host to be a one-and-done team building experience, use it as a catalyst to trigger team-building activities throughout the year. It’s an investment of time and, sometimes, money, but it’s one of the most important investments you can make.
Keep the Energy Up
Our team-building activities are a great motivator and an excellent way to tear down walls that may have been building up in your workplace. Once the event is over, though, it’s up to you to keep that positive energy going! An easy way to do that is to set up company goals, identify every team member’s role in accomplishing that goal. Challenge your team to keep pushing, and always celebrate achievements — especially if said achievements required teamwork.
Don’t Force It
“Team building exercises” often evoke the imagery of ropes courses, trust falls and other activities that are awesome. But relying on these activities all the time to build your team morale can be somewhat exhausting. Instead, sharing experiences and spending time together are great ways for your team to strengthen their bonds when you aren’t hosting actual events. Something as simple as a night at the bowling alley, which has no overt lessons attached, can be a great team building tool.
Try Something Original
Company picnics have become something of a punchline in recent years. While they’re an easy way to get the team together outside the office, they are simply cliche by now. Rather than something as mundane as a picnic, instead try something that challenges your team and/or makes them feel appreciated. A unique activity, like a NASCAR racing experience, may cost a good chunk of change, but can bring your team together in ways a picnic simply can’t.
If team morale has been down, or you’ve noticed a lot of friction recently, a team building retreat can be a great way to kick off a new initiative to strengthen bonds and grease the wheels.
